Brown & Dancers Social Dance for Social Change series curated by Brenda Dixon Gottschild and has been featured in Dance Magazine for her role in diversifying the Flamenco landscape. Recently, Aliesha was a lecturer as part of the Camille A. She was shortlisted for a Fresh Tracks residency at New York Live Arts and has been the recipient of numerous grants in recognition of her growing body of work. After winning first place at the NYS Flamenco Certamen (now Flamenco Certamen USA), Aliesha has gone on to perform in local, national and international dance festivals, receiving multiple invitations to perform at the United Nations Headquarters, Terraza 7, the African American Museum in Philadelphia, and others. You can follow her on first encountering live Flamenco, award-winning dancer and Brooklyn native Aliesha Bryan (Pájaro Negro) has developed a rich and diverse tapestry of movement from which to create. She is a proud Capricorn, loves the ballet step renversé, and has the best recipe for banana bread.
Her poems have also appeared in The Big Windows Review, The Inquisitive Eater, and Rogue Agent Journal. In May 2021, she graduated from the New School’s MFA in Creative Writing under the poetry emphasis and is the author of the chapbook, refinding the rules of gravity (Finishing Line Press, 2021) which was featured in Dance Magazine. She recently wrote and choreographed a choreopoem titled Sunday which was presented via the Emerging Artists Theater’s New Works Series in October 2022 at the TADA! Theater in New York City. Since graduating, her choreography has been featured in Bridge for Dance’s Uptown Rising and Borne Dance Company’s benefit concert, Out of Darkness and she has danced professionally with VISIONS Contemporary Ballet, Gleich Dances, and the Kennedy Dancers. in English at Harvard University, she studied dance with Jill Johnson and performed repertoire from Martha Graham, Bill T. She grew up in the ballet studios of Palos Verdes Ballet and the Orange County School of the Arts. Anna Antongiorgi (she/her) is a poet, choreographer, and dancer from Redondo Beach, CA.
